Initial Teacher Training

Do you have what it takes to be a role model to thousands of young people?

As a teacher you have the opportunity to change a child’s life forever. It takes a very special person to be a great teacher. Great teachers love their subjects and inspire young people and their colleagues to love learning too. They are committed to ensuring every child succeeds, regardless of their background. Great teachers equip young people with the knowledge, skills and experiences they need to make informed choices about their futures.

East Manchester Teaching School Hub operates as the accredited Initial Teacher Training provider for Oldham & Tameside; Manchester Nexus SCITT.

Manchester Nexus SCITT is committed to raising the achievement of young people in the area and beyond by producing great teachers.

Therefore, we select and develop trainees who show great potential and are as invested in the life chances of young people as we are. This means that you will be learning alongside trainees who have the same drive and ethos as you. It is important to us that our trainees have access to appropriate support, therefore, we strive to employ mentors and trainers with exceptional expertise and experience. Our mentors will invest in you to ensure you fulfil your potential.

At Manchester Nexus SCITT we know about, care about, and value every single trainee. We are small enough to tailor your training programme to make sure it supports and develops you as an individual, so you can realise your potential and become a great teacher.

The course lasts for one year. Training with Manchester Nexus gives you the opportunity to learn ‘on the job’ as you work and train in schools. You will benefit from working and learning in a school and getting an immediate hands-on insight into what teaching involves, whilst training 1 day a week with an experienced facilitator. School-led courses have very high rates of employment and trainee satisfaction as no other training route offers as much school based experience. You learn from current practising teachers, in schools, so you develop skills and knowledge faster.

Trainees graduate with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Post Graduate certificate in education (PGCE) with 60 Masters level credits.

East Manchester Teaching School Hub & Manchester Nexus SCITT provide high-quality training with a personalised approach, from ITT through to the Early Career Framework, National Professional Qualifications and further CPD. We’re committed to continuous development throughout a teachers’ career, and we pride ourselves in really getting to know you, as we see your teaching journey progress.
