We are proud to be delivering the Department for Education’s Excellence in Reception Teaching Programme, designed to support Reception teachers to strengthen early years practice and improve outcomes for every child.

About the Programme

The Excellence in Reception Teaching Programme is a national initiative developed as part of the Department for Education’s white paper, Every Child Achieving and Thriving, and the Best Start in Life Strategy.

The programme aims to:

  • Strengthen high-quality teaching in Reception classes
  • Support early language development and communication
  • Promote effective pedagogy in the early years
  • Improve outcomes for children at the end of Reception

Delivered by the UCL Centre for Educational Leadership, this programme brings together evidence-informed practice and expert guidance to support teachers in delivering excellent early education.

Who is this programme for?

This programme is designed for:

  • Reception class teachers (those who have recently completed induction and experienced teachers)
  • Early Years leaders and practitioners working in Reception
  • Schools seeking to strengthen EYFS provision

What does the programme involve?

The programme provides a structured package of professional development including:

  • Evidence-informed training sessions

  • Support to embed best practice in early years teaching
